Welcome

The Society of the Polish-Eastern Cooperation MEMORAMUS became constituted in spring 2006 as a result of close cooperation, initiated between six of Poznan schools and representatives of two organizations: the Katyn Families and the Association of Siberian Deportees. The aim of the Society is to preserve the memory of the II World War fates of Polish citizens’ in the Eastern territories, to support Polish community abroad and to establish mutual relations between young people from Poland and the nations of the former Soviet Republics. A common initiative to be undertaken is an annual trip to Katyn and the March of Polish and Russian youth, whose aim is to pay tribute to the victims of the communist crimes.

The Society’s main objective is to promote all forms of personal contacts, including students’ exchanges and holidays organized for young people from Poland, Polish community abroad, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The trip to Katyn, which a group of Poznan students attended in spring 2007, proved it possible to combine national memory preservation with natural, long lasting contacts among young people whose wish is to create future while respecting the past. Among the Society’s priorities there is an aspiration to enable ordinary people something that is often impossible in great politics, that they can stay together and share their views in less formal or official atmosphere. The Chairman of MEMORAMUS and the guiding spirit of all the Society activities is Wincenty Dowojna, a son of the Polish Army officer murdered in Katyn.
